There are three conversations that you should have before you get married. Most important one is about faith. What is your faith, religion and beliefs? If you are in the same religion, are you both religious or not? If you have a certain faith, what is your expectation that how involved or not involved they will be? Whatever you choose is okay, but I think having clarity about that is incredibly important. The second most important thing is children. Do you want kids, or not? How many do you want? If someone doesn't want kids and you genuinely want to raise a family, I think that is something that you cannot align. So have that conversation openly. Tell your expectations, understand the expectations of others.
The third is financial independence or interdependence. This should be clarity. Are both of us earning? Are both of us equal partners? Does anyone have more responsibility or less responsibility? Deciding and discussing these roles are very important so that you know exactly what is the other person's expectation in that relationship.
